Federal Immigration Enforcement - It Sounds Good
71
Is this a joke?
Today I read an article regarding illegal immigration in Connecticut of all places. Not here in Arizona, or in Texas, or in California, states which border Mexico, but in Connecticut. It seems that back in 2007 when Bush was president, federal immigration agents arrested 11 men in New Haven, Connecticut for being in our country illegally. These 11 men then filed suit against the Federal Government claiming their rights had been violated. Now, nearly 5 years later, a settlement was reached awarding these men $350,000 of our hard earned tax dollars, and deportation proceedings have been stopped. What sort of message do you think this sends to other illegals who have been arrested? I hope the new Mantra doesn't become "Go to America and get caught, and you will be rich." These 11 people were award this judgement based on rights violations. What rights? They were here illegally and are not US citizens. They are breaking the law and being rewarded for their actions.
Nothing in this hub is intended to reflect of the hard working men and women of the Border Patrol, INS, or any other agency who is charged with apprehending and deporting illegals. They have dangerous jobs, get little support from the top, are short handed, and not given nearly the respect they deserve.
Nor is this hub intended to seek out illegals who are just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families. They do what they think they need to do, and often lose their own lives attempting to cross the desert to get here. But the fact is they are in our country ILLEGALLY. Try going to any other country as an illegal and see how you are treated. In many countries, you would be in prison for a long time and nobody could help you.
Now here is where my heartburn really starts. Obama made a speech in Texas claiming the border fence was completed, but we were still not satisfied. He claimed we wanted a moat full of alligators the entire length of the border as a joke. The truth is this fence is far from completed, and would most likely not be that effective if it were completed. In many places this fence is nothing more than a three or four strand barbed wire fence that is mainly used to mark the location of the border between Mexico and the USA.
Due to the very fact the Federal Government is not enforcing immigration laws, here in Arizona we tried to pass a bill allowing us to do it ourselves. The result was the Federal Government filed a lawsuit against Arizona. I'm sure many remember all the controversy over this law that caused all of us in Arizona to be labeled as Bigoted, Prejudiced, Red Neck vigilantes. This isn't over yet as far as I know. As usual, those who didn't even read the bill were the most vocal about how unfair it was.
Many claim that illegals cause no financial burden to the states they are living in. A short time back a local TV news crew followed a school bus from a school in Arizona to a Mexican border crossing. They filmed two whole bus load of young children coming across the border with their backpacks full of books, loading on the bus, and returning to the school. Shortly after this aired on the news, I received a notice that my property tax was going up again due to education costs. I have no problem paying to educate the children of legal citizens of this country, but resent having to pay to educate obvious illegals from attending our schools. It seems the schools get a certain amount of money per student, and they could care less where they come from as long as they fill a chair. Before you say it, I know this is a problem within the State of Arizona and the Fed's didn't cause it, or did they?
Visit any Emergency Room in Southern Arizona, and you will find yourself in a long line of illegals using the ER as their Primary Care physicians, at no cost to them. You have insurance, pay a co-pay, and then are told you need some tests that are not covered under your plan so you will be billed directly for those costs. Let me see, the illegal in front of me got the same care I did at no cost, and I end up with another bill to pay. Before you comment, I am not saying we should let anyone suffer or go without needed medical care. I'm just saying I am tired of paying for it out of my pocket, and your pocket. Even if there was a Federal Hospital these illegals could visit for Medical Care, that cost would still be coming out of our pockets in the form of taxes. Remember, the Government operates solely on our money.
The main gripes I have are as follows:
1. The government makes lots of noise about border security, but in truth does little about it.
2. No effort has been made toward establishing a workable guest worker program that would allow these people to come into the country legally, earn some money, and return home at a pre-determined date.
3. To obtain legal citizenship in the USA is a very lengthy and costly process. Nothing is being done that I am aware of to streamline this process.
4. Now that our government has paid off 11 illegals with $350,000 and basically given them amnesty, this word will spread like wildfire. The government will need a whole new department just to handle this type of claim.
In all honesty, I don't think anything short of armed Military on the border will stop the flood of illegals coming into our country, and I would not be in favor of that. That is not what the USA is all about. Other than the Native Americans, everyone who settled this country was from somewhere else.
To ignore a problem will not make it go away, that is only wishful thinking. This problem is getting worse, not better, and this trend will continue until some real solutions are reached.
Thanks for the read.

Mike,
I don't even know where to begin. We talk about this all the time. First, I think we need to determine what ililegal immigration is. Does illegal mean not legal in the case of people from other countries coming over here to live without going through the necessary steps to become a citizen? If it does in fact mean illegal, does illegal mean against the law? If it's against the law, then I have a question. What happens if you illegally withdraw money from a bank? You know, that thing that people like to call BANK ROBBERY? You know, you can get your ass shot doing illegal withdraws. See, what I'm getting to is this ... Here in America we live by the rule of law. If you break that law, you owe a debt to society, and that debt must be repaid. If what these immigrants are doing is contrary to American law, then it seems to me that they are committing a crime. The American people all need to reach an agreement on what illegal immigration means. If we decide that illegal immigration means immigration, which is not legal, and therefore a crime, then we need to take illegal immigration as seriously as we do illegal bank withdraws. If it's not illegal, then let's quit calling it illegal, and be done with this thing. I'm tired of this being a political football. This is not a difficult problem to solve if we come up with the resolve to solve it. We've successfully controlled the border between North Korea and South Korea for over 60 years. Believe me, we can control this one too.
Nice work, Mike!

Illegals take advantage of this country because we allow it to happen. All the propaganda of these people paying taxes (total, complete BS), not hurting U.S. taxpayers and most not taking advantage of social services is complete BS, once again. The La Raza's of the world like to play the race card whenever someone objects. This has never been about race. To my knowledge, illegal aliens are not a race. They are, however, criminals who wantonly suck social services dry of whatever city they have invaded.
In Alabama, we saw the handwriting on the wall. We enacted legislation to bring it to a halt. Of course, The Messiah filed suit against us. But, the legislation has had the desired effect. Illegals have left by the droves. Some were in such a hurry to leave (when the bill was passed), they left furniture, and even their pets behind. Of course, we are racists for demanding the federal government enforce its own laws....CURRENTLY ON THE BOOKS. Either we take a stand against them or they will completely overrun us. It's that simple.
Unfortunately, I am part of the problem. This fall I had my roof replaced. One of the work crew spoke English, or it might be better to say one of them spoke *enough* English so that we could communicate. Indirectly I am/was an employer of illegals I suspect.
Then again, a roof is a pricey thing especially when you're on a fixed income.
Mike - Good article huh? Since when do illegal aliens have "tights" in this nation? Illegal means illegal. They entered this country by violating the law and they are at risk when they do. The problem is the lack of enforcement of the laws by the federal government.'
Then we hear the bleeding hearts in DC saying there has to be a solution. Sure there is. Give em 90 days to get the hell out and stay out. Take their babies with them when they go.
I watched this video today which is brand new on You Tube. Absolutely incredible job. A fence? To stop who from doing what?

Along with hiring illegals I think some illegals probably do not get the benefit of safe work place etc that are part of our labor laws.If the labor laws were enforced employers would probably have no reason to hire illegals.
Great hub and a problem that we should not ignore----I just saw on the crawl this "sheriff in Arizona resigns" and that is a real shame----it is a real shame that the state of Arizona did not rally around him like Grassroots did---I have lived in 38 cities and 12 states and have done volunteer work in the "barrios" in those cities for the past four decades and the large majority of the kids I worked with were born here and most of their parents came here illegally and never learned English----I believe because of my own experiences that the government "estimate" of 12 million illegals is seriously skewed---I believe that the number is much higher----some of the kids I mentored who went to school in Mexico before coming here illegally with their families were in classrooms where they were not only encouraged to come here illegally, they were encouraged to populate the four states they are being taught that America stole from them----they are being taught to spread their seed all over those states to become a majority in them and to take them back----in Texas they are the majority and while I was living there three years ago, 46 illegals were arrested for owning and operating DMV locations where they were selling the ID's of legal Mexican Texans to illegals for two hundred dollars and it was estimated that more than 18,000 legal Mexicans had their identity stolen in this way---a lot of people say if all business owners use the government verifying system that it will prevent the hiring of the illegals----not so in this case because their ID's show they are legal and this is happening in every state in our country-----also not so, when they are working for businesses owned by illegals in the first place----businesses who do not hire anyone who is not here illegally----I lived for the past three years around the Enchanted Circle in New Mexico and when you live and not vacation there, you learn that this state has left the union----one in three residents is on welfare and very few of the people there speak English and many of the businesses in Taos, Angel Fire, Red River and Questa are owned and operated by ppl who are here illegally---and they will only hire workers who are here illegally---no one would hire me in any of those towns----and some ppl here are saying they are not treated well, that is just not true, they are treated like gold by their employers and coddled and appreciated in a way that most Americans workers are not treated in the workplace today----but if you have seen the documentary "A Day without a Mexican" you know that to run them all off would bring this country to a screeching halt----for decades they are harvesting what little food we still grow in America, a job that when I was a kid the white youth of America did and will no longer do---when I was in college I met a lot of guys who bailed hay in the summer to pay for college and the baby boomers kids refuse to work that hard and refuse to stand out in the sun all day to do our yard work or trim our trees or cook our food in restaurants or clean our houses or who do the few factory jobs in which we still produce goods--and the beat goes on---no one is doing anything, because they don't know what to do about all those who are here for decades illegally---yes, our idiot politicians could secure the border and choose not to, but the other problems that would occur if we deported them all tomorrow would be demonstrative---we are all searching for answers to problems that elude us---I saw a man last month who owns thousands and thousands of acres of apple groves and he has been running ads nationwide to pay $13 per hour to anyone who will pick his apples----this would come with health insurance and a place to live onsite and he cannot get anyone to pick his apples since the feds came in and took away the illegals who had been picking his apples for the past four decades---and every farmer and rancher in the country is having the same problem---unless we come up with a solution and tell our government what to do---nothing will happen and our food will continue to die on the vine
There are jobs where they will not allow illegals of any type, there are fines of $10,000 for each illegal hired by an employer. The problem is getting those laws enforced. My favorite place to live and work has put in place one of those guest worker programs and it has prevented americans who want to work from getting the jobs that they wanted, "they" claim the illegals only take jobs no american wants and that isn't true, as the illegals in many states have taken over and the americans that want those jobs are with out jobs. The guest worker program is a joke because instead of returning home the workers stay and become "illegal" once their visas are expired and this also works with illegals from other countries such as england and other european coutries.
The facts here are simple, the agents entered a house without probable cause, a warrant or consent from the owner/resident, so they broke the law, the people caught should still be deported but they have every right to sue the agents, furthermore they should be fired, what if for example the people inside turned out not to be illegals? Whether you are a criminal or not you still have rights as a human being in the US, its not debatable, hopefully the ruling will teach the agents to do their job within the law and also not to draw and point their weapons without probable need as they were also convicted of.
I am in a different part of the country than you are, I normally work the states the Mississippi runs through and then in a number of eastern states. I consider myself a migrant worker. I enjoy moving around the country and working. I have had to quit going to certain states because they have not tried to stop the illegals from working even though you must be finger printed and run through a back ground check.. The problem isn't the same for every industry I understand that and I cannot speak for any industry but the one I know.
I would be at an apple orchard to pick apples for $13/hr but I have never seen an ad for a job like that any where. I wonder how long the season is , I can tell you that picking apples is seasonal , but nothing more about it. I can tell you part of the problem is that picking crops is seasonal and most people don't want to follow the harvest season around. Other seasonal work may not be readily available to keep locals working year round. This could be part of the problem as well as affordable housing for migrant workers.
I have heard of e-verify but I don't know if I've ever been run through it by any one. I just know that there are tools out there that are in place and not used. I do not know if the $10,000per illegal fine is a state or federal law, I do know it hasn't been used with any frequency that I know of. I have never checked to verify the news reports that I have seen that refer to it.
I find it interesting that there are employers out there that can't find people to fill the positions they have. The other thing I find interesting is the companies who don't have any full time jobs but they are advertising jobs at minimum wage and @20-30 hrs per week and won't give the employees a set schedual so they can work 2 jobs so they might have a chance to earn enough to live on.
Poolman, I can't believe you have worked in that area----I have not met one person who has spent more than a week or two in second homes or on vacation there and the caucasians who live around there year round are all able bodied people who are living on SSI---it was truly more like living in a foreign country than when I lived several times in Mexico----a large part of the population are from Spain and have lived there for 300 years and when I moved from Plano,Tx to Questa people would come up to me at the post office or on the street and ask me what I was doing there and when I was leaving---I looked up from my computor one day to see a herd of 80 Yaks in my front and back yards----I couldn't believe it and my landlord, the only other white person in town was calling me on the phone freaking out that these
"cows" were going to tear down my house---in New Mexico they live by hundred year old "free range" law---just like in Mexico---they don't fence their livestock in and that was just the beginning of the backward way the people in this state live---and Questa was just the beginning of meeting some of the best ppl I have ever known and some of the worst ppl I have ever known---one nite while sitting in the local cafe a guy walked in and did a cocaine deal in the entry way of the cafe and when I looked at the teens I had taken to dinner---they told me that the guy was a 7 time rapist and a three time murderer and because his uncle was the DA in all his cases and because his cousin was the local Judge that he had never done a nite in jail for his crimes---there are 18 unsolved drug related murders in Questa and all the 1200 residents know who the murderers are and by the time I left I knew too. New Mexico is a cesspoool of crime and corruption and we can only rest easy in knowing none of them are wanting to go to any other state---they are embedded there with thousands of sanctuaried illegals your state and Texas and CAli have the same niches where they all protect each others identities
marywanderer---maybe in your town it is the case what you are saying, but nationally we have big problems because young people who did the jobs the illegals are doing will not do them today---that and Nafta are the reasons we have less than 20,000 farms today in our country that produce food for commercial consumption---the reason we are not allowed to grow our own food or raise our own beef for our own consumption is because of Agenda 21---I help young people get jobs and in any major city in America there are tens of thousands of jobs---i have researched these jobs extensively to learn that most jobs that you never needed a degree to fill before you will need one to fill today---gyms need personal trainers nationwide in every town but most of them want a person to have a degree in fitness to teach a class in fitness----in addition, I can tell you that if you are over 50 there are no jobs for you in America where they provide insurance because they know that one in five women in America will have cancer and one in four men will have cancer and I see so many older ppl going back to school to get degrees and advanced degrees and they believe they will get good jobs because of this---wasted time and money because next year obamacare is telling every business in our country they have to provide insurance for all their employees and if you are over 50 in America you have a better chance of getting hit by a train than getting a job that pays well or pays anything at all----and again, our youth are lazy and not willing to work for minimum wage and businesses are closing everywhere because no one wants to work anymore---
I agree poolman we should take away unemployment and let the chips fall where they will---and cut some of the 445 welfare programs in our country and see what happens after that---inevitably we cannot sustain the welfare programs initially put into place to help out people who were not able to work due to disability
marywanders, the farmer was doing a news cast from Spokane,Wa.the home of the red delicious apple and he spoke about the fact that all the Washington farmers were having the same problem in spite of offering higher wages than they had in the past---most Americans have children before they can afford them and many more will never be able to afford the kids they have and then when things are bad in their hometowns they don't want to leave those family ties and move to a place where jobs exist---for decades we watched as Tennessee and Kentucky and the Carolina's fell into poverty due to the closing of coal mines and the closing of all our manufacturing plants and there were lots of jobs and careers in other states, but the people in many of those states refused to move---and many states are crumbling under massive amounts of debt today and still able bodied people won't work and ppl refuse to relocate to go where the jobs are---on any given day there are more than 100,000 jobs in Dallas or 60,000-70,000 jobs in Seattle or LA but we don't have equal opportunity hiring in our country anywhere anymore and that is the problem with getting all these existing jobs---no one will train anyone anymore to do a job and that is why millions of college kids are not working---they don't want to start in the mail room and work their way up---they want that $80,000 per year business management job they went to school to get---
oops UPDATE----I thought that the sheriff in Arizona who had resigned was Sheriff Joe Arpaio, but it was a gay sheriff who resigned because he was allegedly trying to deport his ex lover who was in Arizona illegally and this is a sheriff who has been recently employed by Romney---this immigration problem is a huge part of all our lives and no one has any answers.
Old Poolman and anjegirl, I think my perspective is very different because I had to decide between 2 things when I was young.
1. make tons of money
2. Happiness
I will not tell you what I think of college as it is one of my hobby horses ( and I did attend)
I chose to be happy and not drive myself crazy trying to make a fortune. For some reason I have never been able to stay in one place, so the migrant type of life appeals to me.
I do not live in mainstream america, I say this because of how I choose to live, I see to an extent the problems you outline here. I also see the illegal trouble in a different manner too, maybe because of this type of article and the different perspectives some kind of solution can be found... I certainly hope these hubs create an awareness of whats out there and solutions.
The men argued the agents drew their weapons, forced them out of bed and frightened young children in some of the homes. They claimed the federal agency was retaliating against New Haven, which has a reputation as a "sanctuary city" for its embrace of illegal immigrants, and that they were targeted solely because of their Latino appearance.
"I remember everything that happened to me that morning as if it were yesterday," plaintiff Edinson Yangua Calva said. "There are things I haven't been able to get over, it is something that stays with you forever."
In June 2009, a federal judge ruled that agents violated the constitutional rights of four immigrants in the raids. Immigration Judge Michael Straus said the ICE agents went into the immigrants' homes without warrants, probable cause or their consent, and he put a stop to deportation proceedings against the four defendants, whose names were not released.

Thats my source and Its Fox news so I really can;t be accused of using a leftist source.
Wait---poolman,your wife's friend had a crush on the GAY Sheriff? Right? He is good lookin'---I saw him---but IMO all gay men are good lookin' if not pretty---they are born that way---But,at first I thought you meant that she had a crush on Sheriff Joe---and well,I didn't know how I felt about that---but,now I think you mean the gay one---how is he working for Romney---isn't he paid to wear that uniform by the county that he appeared in on camera today to resign? Does Romney have a home in AZ? I don't drink coffee but would love to talk to you about New Mexico---seriously, I try to explain to people here in Tulsa and my friends around the country what that state is like and they just can't get it---it was beyond strange to be around people who had forefathers who lived in the same adobe hand made homes that stand there today more than 300 years ago and the history has been passed down through the generations and these Spanish not Mexican people know and love to share those stories---I had many dozens of close friends of all ages after only a few weeks there and like you said they love to share their homes and food and parties and they have a lot of home celebrations just like in Mexico--and then I had a few people who were threatening to kill me to my face----there was a lot of serious animal abuse in Questa and I began to take pictures of the abuse and started to turn their owners in and it took 3 mo. to get anyone to come out from Taos and get these animals and the one guy they had to patrol the whole Ench. Circle knew of all these abuses and was not in the habit of doing anything about them until I got there----crazy backwoods stuff---I can't believe AZ has the same law and you are right the law says if you don't want livestock in your yard then you have to put up a fence-I can't believe the Cattleman's and Horseman's associations have not done something to change the laws--
Hmmm...
"a federal judge ruled that agents violated the constitutional rights of four immigrants in the raids. Immigration Judge Michael Straus said the ICE agents went into the immigrants' homes without warrants, probable cause or their consent, and he put a stop to deportation proceedings against the four defendants, whose names were not released."
The Constitution applies to American citizens I believe. Could it be that the probable cause was the fact they are here illegally? Good for the ICE agents and the judge should be thrown off the bench for activism.
The Frog
From the American Civil Liberties Union:
THE RIGHTS OF IMMIGRANTS
In decisions spanning more than a century, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the Constitution's guarantees apply to every person within U.S. borders, including "aliens whose presence in this country is unlawful." On the other hand, the Court has said that when the federal government uses its broad powers to supervise immigration into this country, it can exercise those powers in ways that discriminate on the basis of "alienage." In other words, the government has the power to decide who to let into the country and under what circumstances. But once here, even undocumented immigrants have the right to freedom of speech and religion, the right to be treated fairly, the right to privacy, and the other fundamental rights U.S. citizens enjoy.
Since immigrants don't have the right to enter the U.S., those who are not here legally are subject to deportation. The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) has the authority to question "any person believed to be an alien as to his right to be in the United States." But in a 1903 case called Yamataya v. Fisher, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the INS could not deport someone without a hearing that meets constitutional due process standards. Since then, procedural rights for undocumented immigrants have evolved so that today, in spite of Congress' attempts to curtail these rights, most people facing deportation are entitled to:
a hearing before an immigration judge and review, in most cases, by a federal court;
representation by a lawyer (but not at government expense);
reasonable notice of charges, and of a hearing's time and place;
a reasonable opportunity to examine the evidence and the government's witnesses;
competent interpretation for non-English speaking immigrants, and
clear and convincing proof that the government's grounds for deportation are valid.
The constitution does not apply only to American citizens it applies to all people inside the United states, are you suggesting if I was a tourist I don't have the right to a fair trial? Ridicolous, so the difference between illegals and tourists is that illegals have committed a crime and a tourist has not which is why the illegal is subject to deportation but otherwise they have the same rights, but even if they did not all persons must have the presumption of innocense so the illegals had to be presumed to be legal untill proven otherwise so breaking the laws that protect us in advance of proof should be eneough to get you fired anyway. Please think before you write Frog.
Josak - Illegal is illegal. Activist judges are activist judges. Law enforcement is law enforcement. Get it? Illegals forfeited any rights when they broke the law crossing our border. The only right they have is deportation. You bleeding hearts slay me. Just bother to think yourself Josak.
The Frog
That's no anser at all and I think you know it Frog just because someone breaks the law doesen't mean they have no rights, are you suggesting someone serving a prison sentence has no rights what if a tourist commits a crime and serves a short sentence can we then just shoot them because they have no rights? Please Frog. You know what you are saying is ridicolous, furthermore there is a burden of proof and they are innocent of being illegals until proven guilty, the criminal acts by the law enforcement agents were committed before the persons were found to be illegals so even by your twisted "we can do whatever we want to illegals" logic it's still wrong.
Stop replying ignorantly and answer the logical points posed or show yourself to have no answer to them even more than you already have.
A tyrant will allways say it's ok to take someone's rights for whatever reason, aware citizens should note this change with alarm, he who will take the rights of one dreams of taking the rights of all, those rights are there to protect us all and there are no exeptions, ever, except if the law is changed by fair referendum that is the foundation of this nation.
Josack, Illegal aliens have a right to a speedy trial and then deportation. They do not have the right to take jobs away from U.S. citizens and LEGAL immigrants. They do not have the right to suck dry social services such as food stamps, social security, and commit murderous atrocities against Americans. Yet, they do this every single day. Where in the U.S. Constitution does it give them the right to do all this? Why does the ACLU concern itself more with the rights of criminals than law abiding citizens? Here is something that the open borders crowd really doesn't like; American citizens have rights also. The U.S. Constitution doesn't just apply to criminals. But, it applies to those who obey the law as well. When you enter this country illegally, you do so with the knowledge you are breaking the law. You should be treated the same way as an American who (gasp) refuses to pay his or her taxes.
I agree with you completely Writer David (in the context of this discussion anyway on how they should be treated under the law) I did say they should be deported, I just also said they should also receive their minimum rights, are we disagreeing? I don't think we are.
Basically, Josak, we are in agreement. I agree with the way the language the U.S. Constitution is written, they are given certain inalienable rights. Do I like it? No, I don't like the fact illegals have the same constitutional rights as I have, a man who has served his country during war and paid taxes all his life. But, it is what it is. Men and women have died defending this nation. I am a strict constitutionalist. I would be a hypocrite if I said you were wrong. They (illegals) do have rights. The problems seems to arise when our government bends over backwards to appease illegals. That is when I get angry. It is not racism. There is no such race as "illegal aliens." It is about the rule of law. The rule of law states I have to obey the laws of this nation. The rule of law should be apply equally to illegals as well. Right now, under Obama, it is not being done so due to executive orders by Obama.
Josak - As I point out on other Hubs. I don't respond to nonsense, especially liberal nonsense. Illegal means illegal. The federal government needs to enforce the present laws on the books. It doesn't. New Haven needs to not get once cent of any federal tax dollars as long as it remains a "Sanctuary City." Sanctuary cities are violating federal law.
I have no sympathy for illegals at all. None. They are bleeding our social services systems. Get it? They crossed the border illegally? Get it? They need to be rounded up, given a speedy deportation hearing and kicked out of the country - permanently. Haul them to the border in dump trucks if necessary and deposit them on the other side of our border where they came from - ILLEGALLY. Get that? I care less that some idiot judge contended that there wasn't "probable cause." ICE evidently knew where they were, who they were and what they were doing. If that isn't probable cause then what is probable cause?
Poor little sniveling bed wetters were traumatized? The point of what is written in Mike's narrative whistled right through your ears. I wonder often if you just read the headline and then start busting out at the lip.
The Frog
Writer David, great I am glad we are in agreement, I understand you don't like it, I am also a citizen and I do but thats neither here nor there the facts are that we respect our constitution as being the foundation for certain inaliable rights and we would never be as foolish or disrespectfull to our nation as to say we should ignore the rules that form the foundation of the country we both love, Frog apparently doesn't get this.
I understand you did't say anything about this being a left right issue Poolman it's just that I knew that the facts I was given would be attacked (as they were) so I wanted atleast my source to be something that would not be attacked. As for getting that info no problem at all.
Mike,
The ever-guilty left despises the US because we are both successful and powerful. The left always supports the underdog against the US, so they support illegals and radical Islam, while they hate the US and Israel.
It's mind-boggling!
Civil rights apply to EVERYONE as guaranteed by the constitution (thats when they started applying to criminals) if you don't like it either leave or try to change it by referendum, if you commit a crime and are convicted of it you rightly lose some of those rights but not all, its very simple and its dead on. Yes many countries have tougher punishments for illegal immigrants, quite a few have less severe punishments saying they do it so we should too is a non-sequitor.
The treasury estimates that between half and three quarters of illegal immigrants pay taxes even though they do not receive the benefits that paying taxes entitles them to.
Most importantly however I do not share your attachment to the law as allways representing the moral right, I have been known to Jaywalk amongst other things, my father was a guerilla who fought a government that tortured and killed 50 000 of its own citizens and I have no righteous rage for the starving man with the starving family who steals a loaf of bread so no I disagree I think illegals here don't harm our country, I own a house in the South and it certainly hasn't affected me, as far as I am concerned I live and let live if you don't wan't to do that then fine but its very brazen to try and deny people the protections on which this nation is founded and YES they apply to criminals too and YES they apply to illegals, simple as that.
Josak - Yawn! So read this and crunch some numbers.
"The treasury estimates that between half and three quarters of illegal immigrants pay taxes even though they do not receive the benefits that paying taxes entitles them to."
Now that is a REAL non sequitor! Whether they pay taxes or not has zip to do with their illegal invasion of our country, and certainly does not justify it!
Frog I am quite amused that you find the issue of constitutional rights and checks and balances so boring, please go back to sleep as you were.
Will Star
First its not an invasion. Second the point goes to prove that if anyhting they are having a positive effect on our failing economy perhaps you don't consider their impact on the economy important but I do and I think it shows a real intent to do right by the country when they voluntarily give money out of their allready meager wages, hell I think that makes them better for the country than many of the citizens. I would rather a tax paying illegal over a tax dodging citizen in my country any day a hundred times over so as I said, I live and let live thats my vote and it's the vote becoming increasingly popular so if you don't like it... tough.
"First its not an invasion."
Of course it is!:
Invasion
noun
An intrusion or encroachment.
Illegals cost taxpayers far more than they contribute. In any case, it is still a non sequitor, because it has nothing to do with their illegality.
"I live and let live thats my vote and it's the vote becoming increasingly popular so if you don't like it... tough."
Sorry, but we are still a constitutional republic, not a majority rule tyranny.
What you mean the constitution I have been defending in this thread all along... How funny you didn't seem so keen on it when it guaranteed illegals rights :P Time to make up your mind Will and no evidence suggests they contribute much more than they cost. Also by your definition of invasion we will soon be invaded by some very foreign birds on migratrion (careful thats preety close to immigration)
"How funny you didn't seem so keen on it when it guaranteed illegals rights "
Where did I say that?
"Time to make up your mind Will and no evidence suggests they contribute much more than they cost."
I agree. They cost taxpayers billions, and contribute little. Many are paid under the counter to avoid detection, and pay no taxes at all.
the majority pay their taxes voluntarily as earlier stated and they do not apply for welfare nor social services so they work out being quite beneficial.
As for my first statement youre right it wasn't you who said that, my apologies the right wingers are sort of blurring into each other.
And in FAST BREAKING NEWS from LIGNET.COM on 2/19/12 11:38am
IRAN, AL-QAEDA COOPERATION FOR TERRORIST ATTACK A
"CREDIBLE" THREAT--------------
According to LIGNET the Global Intelligence and Forecasting Service, reports revealed that Iran is working with al-Qaeda to engage in a "SPECTACULAR" terrorist attack on the US or it's Western allies are "CREDIBLE."
Iran is capable of supporting "serious" terrorist attacks, LIGNET says, including those involving biological and chemical weapons. Following the news this weekend that Iran will soon be banned from the SWIFT financial banking system the threat of Iranian retaliation is rising----
JOSAK We have serious problems in this country and this hub is a hub about governnment waste and how government waste can become a trend around the nation that is 100% of the time perpetuated by liberal politicians in conjunction with the ACLU and people like you---this is not a hub about the Constitution or about civil liberties and is not a hub about law school or the many other issues you have tried to make it about so you could have someone to argue with all day---I am going outside now as it is a gorgeous spring day in Tulsa and my dog has brought me his leash and wants to go now---lucky for you on both counts because someone needs to take you down a notch---surely you can find hubs that are talking about the things you have brought to this forum and you can easily find some 20-year-olds on Yahoo who will argue and trade slams with you into next week, but your lack of maturity and your ADD are not appreciated here as they might be like on an ACLU forum---They don't speak for most of Americans--they are tooooo far out there and are nothing if not a divisive cancer in our country for the 40 years I have been involved in politics,so
Illegals almost never pay income taxes and cost the US taxpayers an estimated $100 billion per year. From ABC News:
Well Poolman 3 things #1 My home is currently being occupied by two families who lost their homes due to the foreclosures, I spend a lot of time away on bussiness for months at a time and my house is never left empty when there are people without a roof. They are not illegals but I would treat them no differently if they were, a family is a family and its bad to see a kid on the street no matter where they are from or what their immigration status is.
#2 I don't believe that illegals are asking for charity I believe that the vast majority (and all of the ones I have ever met) are not here for charity they want to work to improve their situation and that of their family and they will take on tough jobs and be treated like dirt to do it, I believe they pay most of their way, if a family tunred up at my door coming from a place that things are so bad they are willing to risk their lives to cross the border and told me they would pay the vast majority of their own upkeep maybe even slighlty more ( Adam Davidson, International Business Correspondent at National Public Radio (NPR), wrote in 2006 that illegal immigrants had a small positive effect on the economy, increasing the average American's wealth by about 1 percent. Yes I know you will discredit this source but even if he is wrong, how wrong can he be? Not more than a few percent I would say) I would let them in, they would pay for their own upkeep and if ever they were to slip a couple of percentage points beneath the red/black line I would help them out that little bit because it's the right thing to do.
#3 I am no kind of christian I have been an atheist since age five when I got a book on biology from the school library and my Orphange mother burnt it because there was an image of the evolutionary progression of man in it, however I know atleast one of you is a christian so it stuns me to hear you guys calling me bleeding heart or saying I am too compassionate, should our roles not be reversed? did not Isaiah ask: "Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter--when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away" It was just a thought that struck me that its usually christians telling me I am too compassionate.
BTW I think this is a great hub on the topic: http://giocatore.hubpages.com/hub/Illegal-Immigrat
nice work! the article it's great! goodjob! thanks also hub!
You know what JO SACK You are a poser!!!! I can spot a liar and a poser from miles away---I can smell a liar from miles away;
You are posing as a constitutionalist, posing as a lawyer,
posing as a home owner, posing as a homeless shelterer,
posing as a bible thumping aetheist and like slick willie Clinton, you are nothing if not a poser---just as there are lots of kinds of Baptists and even more kinds of Christians there are a lot of kinds of liberals---and the ones who work in our factories or the political morons who work in Hollywood or the ones who have never had a job and no one in their family ever had a job and then there are the liberal politicians and in the decades I have worked with them,I have never seen an ounce of empathy in one of them and there is very little empathy among conservatives either and none of the same of crap they all say during elections is is how they plan to govern and in fact some of nastiest people I have known work in politics---and they are all lying if their mouths are moving and the internet is making their smoke and mirrors just that and the little people like all of us are just in their way which is why the Obama administration has piled up laws that tripled the national debt and is taking away all our freedoms and wait until you see what free healthcare will do to the small businesses of this country and to the economy---
Jo Sack I have worked with the kids and grandkids and parents that are hear illegally in 38 cities and 12 states and the family dynamic is nothing like you are posing it to be----yeah, maybe one in a million are but the majority are living 8-10 people in a house and none of them speak any English and they aren't trying to speak English and because of the Democrats all of us have paid for two decades to accomodate them---we don't accomodate the french when they come here--they learn English and when thousands of Vietnamese immigrated here we didn't accomodat them and the same is true with all the other Asians and Europeans and everyone else on the planet who have moved here legally---we are on our fourth decade of rampant Latino gangbanging and drug dealing from coast to coast and these are the kids of our illegal immigrants and as I have said because all American kids today refuse to work at hard jobs for low wages we are supporting them all---their daughters have been birthing babies along with black broke moms that I have known for decades and a whole bunch of people live under one roof and all of them live very well on the 445 government welfare programs that we have only the liberals for creating and for perpetuating every time they have control of both houses and these people are not morons, most of them have law degrees and they have known for decades they are running our country off into the ditch and now here it is and there is no turning back from this---it's too late---AGENDA 21
Poolman,it's Dr.Pepper or a nice California Chardonnay---I'm ready when you are---I want to hear what your wife's friend said---I have great gaydar---if they would have shown him in the first place, instead of it being on the crawl---why was he working for Romney--do you know?
I am sorry you feel this way anjegirl, its allways sad to see someone lose faith in humanity, I believe thats what has happened to you, I assure you I do not pose as anything but I do find it sad that you have come to the conclusion that no one means what they say and that there is no ideology that walks the walk, I do have compassion and I base my views on it I know many others who do the same.
As for when you get angry and use too many exclamation marks (perhaps you think you are taking me down a notch hey? :P), or make racist statements or just abuse a political movement without logical follow through reasoning to that I will not respond because it deserves no response.
Wow... getting through the comments nearly made me forget the Hub, had to go back and refresh myself on it.
To begin with I figure that they who were given the awards by the Judge, should be informed that they can pick up their checks as soon as they return to this country legally and have then become naturalized citizens. They should be further advised that if they attempt to re-enter the country illegally again that they would of course forfeit the awards.
A little incentive to do it right this time.
One great Hub... and many following comments were spot on, some not so much. As always Poolman I appreciate your views.
I would not starve my own family either, I understand that family comes first but I sincerely doubt you are starving or your family is, I really hope they aren't anyway, but many illegals are, I know things are tough here in the US, I am ok but I have plenty of friends who are in deep with the crisis and as I said I have people in my home who have lost theirs BUT things in Mexico are even tougher so I think its ok for them to come over, I understand that some of them probably do exploit the system but figures I presented indicate they are giving more back to the country than they are taking so if it is costing me allmost nothing or perhaps helping me slightly to help others it seems downright evil to begrudge them that. I am no kind of angel and it worries me that you think ofering my house to people while I am away is angelic, that seems like basic commonsense to me I barely consider it a good deed, it doesent involve any sacrifice on my part, I do a lot more than that and if you think thats angelic then I sincerely suggest you two should start doing more in your community you will meet many more like me, I gurantee it, there are people who care for others everywhere.
JO Sack how many is too many exclamation marks and how is it that you think they make me angry----how is it I have lost faith in humanity??????? I have no faith in our government or our politicians which comes directly from 4 decades of working with them----with regard to racism???? WHAT???? I have already said I have taken into my home more than 100 kids all of whom were black or hispanic---in addition I said that for 50 years since I was 10 years old I have been working with and bringing home black and hispanic kids---today I do political workshops in my home with kids from the hood in N. Tulsa---I bring them into my home for the weekend---I do rape crisis counseling for free online and right now I am working with two black girls one hispanic girl, one girl who lives in N.Ireland and a girl from France??? And I never ask them what color they are when they come to me for help---Two years ago Good Morning sent reporters out to twenty towns in our country to ask one question---how many lies do you tell in a week---Americans in 20 cities admitted to telling 10-12 lies every week----I thank God every day that I know when people lie and it comes in really handy when working with the many convicted felons I have worked with and so for me to tell you that you are lying and posing as a lot of things that you are pretending to be for the sole sake of arguing---and finally the planet is grossly overpopulated and their are moms all over the planet who are voluntarily only having two kids and that is something that the broke people of the world need to realize---I don't care where you live---if you are broke then you have no business bringing a child into the world---and if the Mexicans would stop having soooo many kids here and in Mexico the food to people ratio could be eradicated---and again, I don't care how many links you post here telling yourself that the illegals are doing their share---it is not true---I have been in their homes all over America and that is not true---they don't contribute anything except for doing the jobs American kids are too lazy to do---no idea what political movement I am abusing---again you just came out of left field---
anjegirl, I know many illegals who are here and live like sardines just so they can send most of the money they make back to whichever poverty striken place they come from. Many are having lavish homes built while they are here ( even the ones with "green" cards) so in 3-5 years they can go home and live "the good life".. So many of them think its such a good joke on us.
Then there are the ones who truly want to be americans and had no clue about getting or needing papers.
Last but not least are the trouble makers who are here to cause trouble because they think the land from coloradosouth and west should belong to Mexico and they are going to do what they can to start some thing in the name of getting it back....
I am sure that you too have seen this in your travels.
I really think the only type of illegal here that is good, is the one trying to get legal now that they understand they need to be. The rest of the users and trouble makers need to leave..as in yesterday.
Josak,
Plain and simple bro. Go back and look at everything you said. You're not running an open door mission and you damn well know it. Doesn't add up, and if you're going to stand by that, I'd love to see you offer some kind of proof. Otherwise, all the high and mighty crap you're spouting off here is just that. You have assigned yourself a bunch of credentials that do not exist, then you want to paint us as unloving and uncaring. Crap dude, what part of ILLEGAL don't you freaking understand? There are highways that we can't even drive up and down because of drug cartels. Our next-door neighbor, California, has to build one school every day, seven days a week, 365 days a year to keep up with this ILLEGAL imigration. Look it up. ILLEGAL immigration is destroying our infrastructure from the inside out. So if you're telling me that you would house ILLEGAL aliens, then I suppose you would house a runaway bank robber, because the poor bloke was down on his luck, and didn't have any choice but to make an ILLEGAL withdraw. Poor baby. If you don't have any respect for the rule of law, then you have no jurisdiction or credibility to say anything to law abiding citizens.
If you did, which you don't, house, wayward strangers who were down on their luck, you would not be humanitarian, you would be an idiot. You have a responsibility to your family, and to jeopardize their safety and well-being by bringing some strangers into your home that bit off more than they could chew would be completely irresponsible. I suspect that if you're helping anyone out who got booted out of their house, it's probably your freaking sister-in-law and her husband, or some other family member. Get out of here with your humanitarian crap. If you had 1/10 as much compassion for your fellow Americans as you do for the people breaking the laws of the nation, I'd be willing to listen to you for about 3 min. It's time for you to say goodbye pal. Go somewhere else and peddle this crap.
Old Poolman, I am 3rd generation American on both sides, ALL of my family came here legally. They had to have sponsers and then learn the language, then follow the process to become citizens and THEY WERE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN. Sorry my family were and the ones left in the old country are poor, My great-great Grandfather was a tinker....
I am trying hard not to "ride" my hobby horse here... I think its ok to come here the right way, I also think illegals have no respect and we should not allow them amnesty, except for the few who find out they did the wrong thing and right away try to fix it, they are usually respectful and looking to be productive citizens and I applaud and embrace that attitude.
I am aware of what would happen to me if I tried this in another country, try crossing European borders and forget they want your passport, they can get a little hostile depending where you are.
There is a reason people are afraid of the police in some countries.
Because I am able to communicate in spanish, I have conversed with many spanish speaking people some legal , some not. I find it interesting what they have to say about where they came from and why. I think because I speak Castellian they take me more seriously. In over 30 years only 4 people I have run across have recognized it for what it is and it was because they held degrees and were here working because it was better money. One man was a pharmacist from Mexico City, he made more money here with just a job or so he said
I recall a social studies class in the '70's that claimed by 2020 the projected demographics of the U.S. showed the population to be @half hispanic.
That said , thanks for writing hubs that spark lively discussions
Mike,
Dude, you are my friend, but I've got to ask you ... Where do you get these water heads? This clown has wasted way too much of everybody's time. I mean anybody can say ... " uhhh, I give half my money to charity, and I donated a kidney to a complete stranger." " I picked up a hitchhiker the other day, and decided to rack it up a notch, so I just gave him my car which was only three weeks old."
Anybody can claim anything on the hub pages, but that doesn't make it so. Last week, this guy was probably a fireman, and the week before that he was a freaking astronaut. Crap bro, bounce these freaks before they suck up too much air from now on.
Call me tomorrow and maybe we can go downtown and find some street people to come and live with you and Sue for a while. While were at it, I'll bring down a couple dozen live with me too. Forgot, those street people are Americans. Can't have that. Take up too much room that could be used for sheltering ILLEGAL immigrants.
jim
okay Jim that stuff is just hilarious and I already pegged this guy as a "poser"and a liar
mary wander-- I agree with everything you said to me---the last time I lived in Mexico was in Cabo San Lucas in 2000 and there were those fancy houses going up on the beach by my place all over the place and I would go and ask the workers who were building the houses where the money was coming from and of course, it was coming from here---I am talking 20 room mansions with marble everywhere--these homes were so nice that the owners would pay ppl to guard them overnight until they could go back and retire in the house that America built---I have paid for and helped several of the kids who came here illegally to get citizenship---it can be done in a couple of weeks through the Catholic Church---they were the ones who were not convicted felons and who I had secured jobs for as soon as their papers came through--but I agree with you about our North Eastern Canadian border where it is suspected that most terrorists enter this country---and many of the illegal parents and grandparents of these kids I have known have been here for decades and have built businesses and really put down roots---I have even known a few who were paying taxes---not many, but a few---they need fake ID's to pay taxes when they are here illegally which are easily obtained off the street---
I have been asked to leave the the hub so this will be my last (short) post, To poolman, I apologise for disrupting your hub the only reason I brought up my home situation was because you asked a question pertaining to it. To everyone else I am sorry if I have offended you, you will note I hope that I never sworn or insulted any of you despite several of you doing precisely that all I did was present a dissenting opinion (and provide links to back it up) I hope you all have a nice day.
anjegirl, my mom's family is from the iron range in northern minnesota, I have always distrusted that open border, I will never have trouble crossing it at will, and I have to say there are a few others I knew how to circumvent, I had to make plans to perhaps cross several borders if the former Yugoslavia had started its civil war before my sister was told to leave Ljubjana for Germany as she was over there going to college for a year. My dad though I could accomplish anything, I would have been sent to the rescue, regardless of the circumstances.
Ironically its some monks(?) from a local monastary, I am not quite sure of all the facts, that help with the guest worker program for the Mexicans that ran americans out of work in Delaware. There was no reason to bus them in as there were few jobs, getting help was never an issue, just some crazy do gooder decided to help them and lose a number of us our jobs...Then they stay after the visa runs out and I know as I read and write both languages and was often asked to help with many kinds of documents fill out or translate, even write letters home.
To Josak,
Yes, you did insult us. No, you weren't as brass as I was calling us names, but sugarcoated insults are sugar coated insults, and I don't sugar coat anything. Even in your exit, you portray yourself as a humanitarian, taking the high road, while those of us down here in Arizona are a bunch of non-caring redneck's. When you use your self as a measure of what ought to be, you need something more than claims, you need verifiable credentials.
Our homes, families and businesses are located in the United States of America less than 60 miles from the Mexican border. People like you who live, probably more than 1000 miles from the Mexican border, with no vested interest in the area affected by a breached border, have no right to sit in your ivory towers and judge us. Thank you for your graceful exit.
To Others,
There seems to be a general attitude in certain parts of the United States that those of us here in Arizona are some kind of bigots and racists. 41.6% of our population down here in Tucson is Mexican Americans. 46% of all businesses are owned by Mexican Americans. A person would be hard pressed to find a place where Whites and Mexicans worked side-by-side better than in our state.
My close friend and ex-business partner is Mexican. His father brought him and his family over here when he was 10 years old. The first thing his father did was make sure that everyone in the family could speak English, and the second thing he did was go through the process of obtaining citizenship. It burns Roy up watching illegals bypass the laws of this nation. He understands, like most people, that not speaking the language fluently, having as second rate education, and bogus documentation or no documentation, makes it impossible for these people to have a prayer at obtaining a higher standard of living. It also sends a rotten message to those who have come over here and worked hard to go through the legal process to be legal.
There also seems to be a general attitude in certain parts of the United States that we should turn our back on illegal immigration down here in Arizona, that we should go to great lengths to make sure that we don't insult anyone by asking them if they are a citizen of the United States when we make a traffic stop. Funny, Mexican Americans don't have a problem with this at all. People foolishly think that by allowing these people to breach our borders is doing them a favor. They think that allowing these people to come over here, not speak the language and live in the shadows while allowing them to do underpaid labor jobs for less than the going price is humanitarian. It's not, it's called slavery. There is a right way and a wrong way to do everything, and not enforcing the laws that are in place is the wrong way to do business.
jim
Mike---So sorry to hear about your family emergency---we will pray for you---So was the gay guy trying to deport his former lover or not---if not then why did he resign? He is still super cute---
Three years ago I was driving through north Dallas at about 75 miles per hour---cause if you drive slower you will be rear-ended when an illegal Mexican crossed three lanes of traffic and left the scene where he had caused a 5 car pile up---in Texas if you rear end someone it does not matter who caused the wreck or if anyone was cited---you are automatically responsible and expected to pay from your own insurance---as it turned out the man I hit in the pile up was also in the state illegally with 12 members of his own illegal family and driving a brand new Ford Excursion SUV. He had an attorney by the next morning who had threatened to sue my insurance company if they did not pay them for damages and injuries---the nite before they had no injuries at the scene but by the next morning seven of them had gone to the ER and they all had injuries and before I could call my insurance company, they had already caved and agreed to pay them---they refused to even think about not paying them---a woman at the scene had gotten the license plate of the man who caused the wreck and I urged my insurance company to wait to find the man responsible and they refused----they sent him a check that morning for more than $80,000---it was Progressive---two months later when my policy came up for renewal---they cancelled me---I have had to pay higher premiums ever since.
Driving in Dallas is not easy on any given day and everyone is doing 65mph or faster day and night and there are 18 wheelers on these freeways 24/7----I-35 is the way 90% of all people who enter Texas get there and in Dallas 35 meets up with 6 other major highways in a huge spaghetti bowl that makes up the traffic there---it is estimated that 40% of the drivers in Dallas at any given moment can't read the road signs---Progressive told me that 30% of all claims they get in the state come from people who need an interpretor (which I pay for) to get their money
Two nights ago in Broken Arrow,OK. at 3:30AM---five armed and masked gunmen kicked in the back door of a home with two elderly people who had 4 of their grandchildren sleeping over---this is a very nice suburb of Tulsa and a very wealthy area--Garth Brooks lives there and these gunmen got all the people in the house up and beat the hell out of them and left the home with a hundred dollars and some food---when caught it was learned that this was just a random home invasion and the gunmen were illegal Mexicans and now we have to pay for a trial and on and on and on---every day these things are tearing our country apart---
It sure looks like Iran is going to push us too far and then once again all our worn out and war weary National Guardsmen may have to really go to war to defend our country and we are not prepared for WWIII---I know men and women in the Guard who have been deployed 4-5 times to fight these useless desert wars and now when we may really need to go to war---we don't have the military for it---our National Guard are sick of war---every day 18 of our war vets are commiting suicide in the US (ref.the guardian/uk)because of all the useless terrorist based wars they have been involved in that have been so horrific---and as we all expected now that we are pulling troops out of Afghanistan Al-quaeda are teaming with our enemies and rearing an ugly head.
I want to propose by petition that the millions of young career criminals who are convicted felons and unable to work in the US ever---be put into a branch of our military for four years and in return they have their felonies expunged and possibly learn something to take them through the rest of their lives---these kids are convicted felons usually before they turn 15 and at 25 they are looking for any way they can "get a life" but you do not work in America if you are a convicted felon and these men and women are hard core and most of them grew up on the streets of a war zone where murder is an every day occurance--they want out and our military needs some new blood---I want to petition the POTUS and Congress to do this, but could use some suggestions as to where the best Public Petitions exist that would get the highest amount of exposure---this is a win for our country, for the felons, for the Guardsmen and a lose for Iran,so
My sister was rear-ended here in Phoenix by an illegal (he admitted it to her!) He told her he had no insurance and simply got back in his car and drove away! She took down the license number, but the police told her that there wasn't much they could do because he was an illegal.
It kills me when I hear what has happened to all the ranchers who own border property, because of the blood,
sweat and tears that went into my family developing and maintaining and operating our two and a half sections of land that my daddy bought for our future. When I hear and read these stories the first thing that I think of is the FACT that their land has become useless and valueless because of where it is located and this is often land that has been in their families for generations and many of the folks who own border land are Mexican and have come here legally. I think the bleeding hearts and the "sanctuary city" people should buy their ranches and they can then help these people the minute they cross the border and let our ranchers move inland.
I was reading a story the other day about a man whose ranch is now on the Mexican side of the border. He was speaking about how he will see the border patrol open a gigantic gate and then close it again leaving him and his family on the Mexican side. It is heartbreaking when you know how much work goes into owning and operating a cattle ranch and all of a sudden you wake up and your land is no longer in your country and you and your family now live in a country where you're there
illegally. He was saying that he fears that the
Federalies will come to his home and take it and his land and his family will be escorted to the other side of the fence and dropped off forever. I can't imagine one could sleep at night under those circumstances ever.
With regard to the Petition to get the convicted felons to go into the military,I know that our government is on a different agenda (agenda 21) to just get rid of as many of us as they possibly can "thinning of the herd" but a petition that can get national attention is something these morons have always been unable to ignore. I worked with Senator Linda Smith in Washington state who was part of the "contract with America" Repubs along with Newt in the early 90's and I saw first hand how easily a petition process can change law.
In Washington,Oregon and California where they have an initiative process the legislators cannot ignore an issue that the voters want to vote on---they are required after 661,000 names appear on an initiative to put it to a vote of the people---I believe this is the only way to reach our elected officials today because they have never cared about what we want and have never listened to the American people and when we try to get their attention with the Tea Party, the Minutemen that were guarding our border a few years back and "We the people," lead by Ross Perot and "the contract with America" which was quickly squashed by the dinosaurs in power at the time. They never listen to us and eventually we all just go away. The internet is really messing them up though because they realize we can't be silenced, so they are working tirelessly to try to make free speech on the internet illegal as well and to try to make the only advertising on the net to be done by the one world order companies, Bank of America,GE,etc. And they are moving the internet to a place of One World Order with all the new laws and in an effort to categorize our thoughts and words in order to control us.
Yes, the kids I have seen from coast to coast who are convicted felons before they are adults need and deserve a second chance and frankly,I don't care what they do in our military or where they put them in return for getting their felonies expunged, but what I know for sure is that if we don't do something with them, then they are for sure going to keep on committing crimes in order to survive and I also know as most of us do that our National Guard are sooooo weary and certainly not up to a war with Iran,so I will keep looking for a place to file a petition and if anyone has ideas about this then I am all ears
I wonder how Poolman knows that the people in the emergency room are illegal. They have brown skin maybe?
Over one million Hispanic citizens (more than a fifth of the population of the state)live in Arizona, a substantial fraction in Southern Arizona. A majority of Hispanic citizens have ancestors who lived in what is now the United States before it was the United States.
Bigotry is not very attractive.
Bobunt,
Do you know Mike? Do you live in a state that borders Mexico? Mike isn't a biggot. I am. If you're calling him a liar, just get the hell out of here. He's my friend and neighbor and last summer, he brought an illegal into his home who would have otherwise died out here in our part of the dessert. He and Sue fed them and gave them water. He saved his freaking life you idiot.
In 2004 I helped the Sheriff's Department pull 15-year-old Mexican boy's body out of the desert, just south of town. A good portion of his bloated corpse had already been eaten by critters. People like you who criticize people like us from your ivory towers and Google machines should be forced to do some search and rescue down here. We've got highways down here with signs advising us not to travel them due to drug cartels. You don't give a damn about us, and you don't give a damn about the Mexican people who are dying out there on the desert. You call us bigots, but it's people like you who know that people who can't speak English, and are in this country illegally will never accomplish anything more than working for slave labor. But that's okay, because you can get your house painted for half price, and get your yard done for next to nothing. You don't care about the Mexican people who are dying trying to get here, and you don't give a damn about the hard-working Mexican people who are little more than slaves living in this country. Sir, I have nothing but contempt for jerks like you. Please take a freaking hike. Hypocrisy isn't very attractive either dude.
Jim
If you are opposed to the same invasion that the left is encouraging, they lable you a 'bigot'.
Pay no attention. That's all the ammunition they have.
bobunf
Like most hit and run drivers, eh, I mean posters, you will probably not respond to this post either. Let's be honest here. The vast majority of illegal aliens in this country are Hispanic. To deny that fact is sheer lunacy. It is also sheer lunacy to think all Hispanics in a hospital emergency room are illegal. But, the vast majority are illegal. Most come from countries with corrupt governments. So, these governments put out propaganda that the United States is responsible for all the woes of Latin America. The USA has always been the scapegoat for all that is wrong in Central America. I doubt that will ever change. It's easier to accept your criminal activity of invading this country So, crossing illegally into the USA, sucking social services dry, is considered "just desserts."
The reality is, if the USA picked up, took all its money, infrastructure of schools, services, government etc., from Arizona, California, New Mexico and the other states La Raza claims is territory of Mexico, in less than 5 years, Hispanics would be in the same shape they are now. You know it. We know it. But, no one seemingly wants to admit it. If that is bigotry, I wear it proudly. You have a culture that you must change, before you can change. Meanwhile, you want to live off the fruits of labor of the American taxpayer. Don't expect respect. You have to earn it.
Here in Wisconsin, the illegal problem isn't half as bad as Arizonas but we still have them in droves. The worst part is that they won't learn english yet expect us to learn spanish when they call for help. I've heard enough 911 calls to know it happens way too frequently. Then they get mad at us for not being able to communicate. If you are going to live here learn english or leave.
It's also a shame when law enforcement officers can't do their jobs because the officer will be put in prison for doing it. This has happened! More than once!
That is the thing that gets me the most also---that not only the illegals but many who are here legally refuse to learn English----two nites ago in Tulsa the Head guy of the 911 system here made this long speach about how sorry they are that our 911 system doesn't always have a Spanish translator on staff and that they have to rotate the calls to a center where they do have Spanish speaking people online 24/7 which takes less than one second----He said "I know it is terrible that sometimes we have to forward a call and we are going to spend a lot of money to be able to have Spanish speaking people in our offices in Tulsa." I wanted to go through the television screen----I have lived in Mexico and they never have English speaking people in their 911 system because they don't have a 911 system---and if we had people at 911 who spoke every language of all the people who move here or vacation here, we would be the only country on earth to do so. In France they speak French at 911 only and in Italy they speak Italian at 911 only and no other country on earth has ever tried to assimilate another language into their countries daily operations---it was foolish to do it here and is an ongoing problem for us in every area of operation---if you cannot speak read and write our language you have no business getting a drivers license or a business license or any other kind of license---Every DMV place in America does drivers license testing in Spanish and because of that there are millions of hispanics driving in our country who cannot read the street signs and in a town as large as Dallas this causes daily wrecks and causes the insurance rates to be some of the highest in the country and it causes lots of hard working people to have to pay for their wrecks and mishaps---it is crazy
I have given more than a few copies of Rosetta Stone in English to more than a few of the parents of the kids I have mentored and nothing---we have dozens of Spanish speaking TV channels because we have been so accomodating with the hispanics and it is just tooooo expensive---I agree with the poster who said "if we give them back what they have been taught is their land in the four states they are taught we took from them, all four states would look like Mexico overnite and four great states would be a huge mess like Mexico is today---
Actually I live in Phoenix, AZ. I not anonymous and I'm in the phone book.
Your posters are long on claims - real short on facts from reputable sources. Take one example from two of your posters comments: "they won't learn english (sic)" and "many who are here legally refuse to learn English."
Some actual facts from the 2002 National Survey of Latinos, conducted jointly by the Pew Hispanic Center and the Kaiser Family Foundation at http://www.kff.org/kaiserpolls/upload/Generational
Primary Language Among Latinos:
Spanish- English-
Dominant Bilingual Dominant
1st Generation 72% 24% 4%
2nd Generation 7% 47% 46%
3rd+ Generation 0% 22% 78%
To put it another way:
Fluent in Fluent in
Spanish English
1st Generation 96% 28%
2nd Generation 54% 93%
3rd+ Generation 22% 100%
1st Generation is defined as an individual who was born in a foreign country or Puerto Rico, who may or may not be a citizen of the United States or have legal residency.
2nd generation is defined as an individual who was born in the United States, but one or both of whose parents were born in a foreign country or Puerto Rico.
3rd+ generation is defined as an individual who was born in the United States, and both of whose parents were born in the United States.
The numbers suggest that about half of the grandchildren know only English and are unable to speak to their grandparents who know only Spanish, a phenomenon I have observed on numerous occasions.
From the Pew Hispanic Center report “English Usage Among Hispanics in the United States” Figure 9 shows the percentage of 1st generation Hispanics who speak English “very well” displayed by age of arrival in the U.S.:
Age 10 & younger 76% speak English very well
Age 11 to 17 30%
Age 18 to 25 16%
Over 25 11%
The numbers suggest that the older you are, the harder it is to learn a new language, a phenomenon I have observed on numerous occasions. The apparent effect of age on language acquisition is probably even larger than indicated because some immigrants enter the U.S. with some prior knowledge of English.
From the Modern Language Association’s Data Center based on the 2000 Census, the Pew His-panic Center and the 2006 Yearbook of Immigration Statistics of the U.S. Department of Home-land Security:
There were a total of 1,008,370 Italian Speakers (all generations) of whom 147,914 immigrated in the past 25 years (1st generation); about 15% of the Italian Speakers
11% of all of the Italian speakers speak English “not well” or “not at all”
Making the assumption that 2nd+ generation Italians all speak English “well” or “very well,” these figures suggest that somewhat less than three-fourths (11%/15%) of recent (last 25 years) Italian immigrants speak English “not well” or “not at all.”
There were a total of 28,100,725 Spanish Speakers (all generations) of whom 11.1 million im-migrated (legally and legally) in the past 25 years (1st generation); a total of about 40% of Span-ish Speakers
29% of all of the Spanish speakers speak English “not well” or “not at all”
Making the assumption that 2nd+ generation Hispanics all speak English “well” or “very well,” these figures suggest that somewhat less than three-fourths (29%/40%) of recent (last 25 years) Hispanic immigrants speak English “not well” or “not at all.” This result is in good agreement with the 2002 National Survey of Latinos quoted above.
This suggests that the rate of English language acquisition among Italian and Hispanic immigrants to the United States is about the same.
“Linguistic Life Expectancies: Immigrant Language Retention in Southern California” is a study published in Population and Development Review. The authors are Rubén G. Rumbaut and Frank Bean, both sociologists at the University of California, Irvine, and Douglas Massey, a sociologist at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School. The study is based on two surveys: the Immigration and Intergenerational Mobility in Metropoli-tan Los Angeles survey, a 2004 telephone survey mainly targeting the Mexican-origin population, and the Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Study, which has followed the progress of a large panel of youths of several dozen national origins in San Diego and south Florida.
“At generation 3 only 17% of Mexicans still speak fluent Spanish…By the…fourth generation, the proportion of Mexicans who speak Spanish very well is just 5%.” These results are in general agreement with the 2002 National Survey of Latinos quoted above, which reported that 22% of 3rd+ generation Latinos were bilingual and essentially none Spanish dominant.
Latinos learn English as fast as other immigrant groups, which means they lose their heritage within three generations. Sensible people feel this is unfortunate.
There are huge advantages to bilingualism. To be competitive in a global economy, Americans need to know more than one language. Advanced knowledge of a second language acquired at a young age enhances the ability to learn a third or fourth language even when older.
A different language is a different vision of life. To know a second language is to gain a second soul.
The second half of the web address (which was deleted by hubpages) is -Differences-2002-National-Survey-of-Latinos-Survey-Brief.pdf
Bob, I wouldn't trust any survey as they are skewed to prove the perspective of those PAYING for the survey to prove their point. I am equally sure there is another survey out there that disproves this.
I agree having more than one language is good, but I disagree that you have a different version of life becuase of it, if that were so many of us who have knowledge of multiple languages woud be in a psych ward. A second or third language just re-inforces that most of us have the same wants and needs. Being open minded lets you understand different cultures regarless of only speaking 1 language.
Is it not important just what rights were violated and the modus vivendi? You did not give a link to the story, but I assume it involves the case in Fair Haven from 2007. In that case the plaintiffs alleged that the government:
- illegally invaded a home without a warrant – a Fourth Amendment violation.
- illegally arrested 29 people based solely on their skin color (as the judge put it in one of his rulings) “with no cause, reasonable or otherwise.” Another Fourth Amendment violation.
- unlawfully and unnecessarily endangering several children in the process
- failed to issue a Mirada warning to anybody – a Fifth Amendment violation.
- abused its power in an illegal attempt to intimidate an elected official with whom it had political disagreements.
In this case the government spokesman, Ross Feinstein, also violated the Eighth Commandment in saying, “The government is settling in order to avoid the additional time and expense of further litigation.”
The fact, of course, is that they settled because they knew they would lose.
We have a fabric of custom, tradition and law that has been at least a thousand years in its formation in its current form. We also have a written Constitution. Americans don’t want their laws enforced by tearing apart the fabric of our civilization.
As St. Thomas More put it, “when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, the laws all being flat? do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then?"
very informative.keep it coming!
anjegirl wrote, "no other country on earth has ever tried to assimilate another language into their countries daily operations."
Hasn't she noticed Canada? Or Belgium? Luxembourg and Malta with three languages? Switzerland and Spain with four languages? Singapore with five?
And all very successful countries. Luxembourg and Singapore both have higher GDP per capita than the US.
Bob, here's an idea. Enter Mexico illegally, demand social services (if that corrupt government even offers any), immediate citizenship to your wife's child if she gives birth there, an American racist organization (such as La Raza for Hispanics) fighting for your "full rights." Try all that and then get back to us.
See you in about 5-10 years...if you make it alive out of any number of delightful Mexican prisons.
Old Poolman-The problem you're describing here is the problem with our civil law. It's bad enough when Americans use civil law to sue someone else for their own stupid actions, but when someone here illegally sues it's even harder to take.
As you say, if they we're here in the first place we wouldn't be having this discussion. You've pointed that out a few times in your comments, and it deserves to be emphasized.
Poolman, could you address the same remarks, "this hub was not about speaking several languages" to anjegirl? I was simply replying to her.
David, What has Mexico got to do with how Americans should behave? No matter what happens in Mexico (or Iran, North Korea or anywhere else) Our government should not be guilty of illegal searches, racial discrimination, failing to follow the Miranda dicta, nor abuse of power.
Incidentally, La Raza is hardly a racist organization - they're sponsored by McDonalds and Bank of America.
It is not a bad thing for the United States to have millions of young, energetic, well motivated, risk taking people with a very strong work ethic in this country. People who work more, sue less and use less social services than the native population - by miles. The bad thing is that we've not arranged a way for these people to be in the country legally. Otherwise their contributions would be even more substantial. We wouldn't be having this discussion if the United States had an immigration policy that recognized economic realities.
Well said Bob, facts and reason, its good to see some of both in these comments, I notice only those arguing against the case made by the hub present links and studies.
About La Raza (The Race!) :
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=13863
Every nation not only has the right but the duty to protect its borders. That includes the US!
Bob-You're right to point out that many who've come into the US illegally have a good work ethic; the intention of many is to make money to send home for their families.
However, to reward those who've come in illegally with green cards or citizenship is wrongheaded because it sets a horrible precedent. This is what we did in the late 80's. Had we followed up with securing our borders we wouldn't be having this discussion now as has been stated. We could bring people into the country AT OUR DISCRETION to meet our labor needs. That's how we need to do it, legal like.
As it is now, the lack of border security has not only allowed in many with good intentions, but also many with foul intentions. We do need to reform our immigration system (tighten it up, streamline it)so that those we deem helpful can get in, while keeping the bad dudes out.
It won't happen, but it's pleasant to thiink about.
Will, re your link to "Human Events." I was rather put off by the magazine when they listed Darwin's "The Origin of Species" as one of the "Most Harmful Books of the 19th and 20th Centuries."
Be that as it may, the author seems to feel it's despicable that the National Council of La Raza disagrees with US immigration law. And he really gets upset that NCLR has participated in organizing demonstrations. You know, peaceably assembling "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
As if that wasn't bad enough NCLR maybe has some tenuous ties to a student organization that apparently babbles nonsense.
I know Danny Ortega, the President of NCLR. He's a lawyer; he's pretty sensible and actually almost conservative. NCLR is criticized for their moderation. For instance, they do not support the boycott of Arizona because of its infamous SB1070.
But NCLR does support Latinos voting. And, as some see it, that is really the big problem with NCLR. The real cause I consider to be the one formally most kept out of sight. The growth of the voting power of Latinos.
"But NCLR does support Latinos voting."
Legal citizens or illegals? They support driver's licenses for illegals and motor-voter registration at the same time, allowing illegals to vote!
Half of my family is Latino, and so is my wife, so don't lecture me on the rights of American citizens who happen to be Latino. BTW, we are all conservatives, too.
Here,here---Will Starr----none of the rest of us could have said that better----I have spent most of my life around latinos who happen to be some of the "best" people I have ever befriended and I am proud to say that I have converted many of them to my conservative values and none of them supported anyone being here illegally----these guys belong on Yahoo with all the other liberal 20-something-year olds---but maybe if they stay here arguing their liberalism long enough they will learn something---or not?? We can only hope and pray---
I hope they can learn, I hope they can grow.
I really am confused as to how anyone can think illegal is ok?
Without facts or experience to base an opinion on, a story told is just a fairy tale or in more modern parlance, urban legend. Facts need to be presentes to back up a story or it is just a story.
Thats my opinion
Old Poolguy
Rated up and awsome; in Obama Land whatever the cost of the Illegals it's worth it; after all what's it worth to buy and election?
Wow, so sorry again, that is so sad and there are no words for when a parent or grandparent has to bury a child----we will all pray for you and your family---blessings
Nice Hub! I think the problems with illegal's have to do mostly with left wing policies and curruption. Liberal politicians see an opportunity for new voters who are already dependant on government programs and an excuse to expand these programs. They also see this as chance to win votes through racial politics, as they can employ a divide and conquer strategy against the opposition. If conservatives are seen as opposing aid to illegals there likely to get flack from the hispanic population who are already American citizens. So its a win-win situation for the liberals who seem to not be overly scrupulous about thier tactics.
That is the strategy, WBA. No doubt about it.
This business of illegals voting is pure delusion. Latinos are quite uninterested in voting to start with. Nice people don't do politics. Undocumented Latinos are adverse to any contact with government institutions. No illegal alien has ever been convicted of illegally voting in the 236 year history of the United States.
Start with zero and extrapolate. You don't get much. Approximately nothing. Illegals don't vote. Period.
Eligible Latinos use government services at a far lower rate than the general population. Undocumented ones hardly at all. There are less dependent on government than the general population in many, many ways.
As a group Latinos have very conservative values: hard work, family values, very strong family ties, especially including fulfilling the obligation of taking care of their own.
A rather bitter Latina once wrote to me: "White people hate taking care of their elders, so in 20 years all these bigots are gonna be in nursing homes getting cared for by who? The Latino children of the Latina mothers they persecuted, oppressed, harassed and raped. Better watch out white old man! It's in your interest to be humane to us because your grandkids are gonna forget about you. You know, estranged families, it's a white thing. I've seen it a lot; you treat your old people like dirt."
In addition, almost all Latinos are Catholic, Evangelical or Mormon; not approving of gays or abortion. Natural conservative Republicans.
But those same conservatives have pushed and kicked these people into the arms of the Democrats, and the Latinos are being rapidly radicalized, an effect that will last for generations. Including a change in the propensity to vote and participate in the electoral process in other ways.
It is a win-win for liberals. Not because illegals will ever vote or because Latinos are being corrupted by government largess. But because they're being treated like an invader. People who've lived in their communities since before there was a United States.
Keep this anti-illegal stuff up. The Democrats are rejoicing.
Right. We had better look the other way as illegals swarm into our country illegally, or they'll get all us 'old white men' later!
What a blatant and racist threat!
BTW, one major reason illegals are coming here is all the encouragement they hear from the left (who want them to get driver's licenses and register to vote, all at the same time!)
That's a well known fact, my friend, so don't try to tell us otherwise!
I have a hard time understanding why people cannot believe the truth.
Yes illegals do vote and they think they can get away with it. Fact is they do.
Yes there is a group of hispanics who are here because they believe if they cause enough trouble, Mexico will get all the land back that they still claim as theirs from Colorado south and west basically.
There is also an illegal group who will work, send money home and then try to get deported so its a free ride home.., after they have built their ranch or new home and have savings.
Yes there are many hispanics or Latinos which ever they prefer to be called that came here wanting to be citizens, when they found out they entered the country illegally they immediately took steps to become legal. THOSE are the people I want as my neighbors. They have ethics and morals and are productive citizens. THAT group of people will not be wanting a government handout.
Look bobunferth----not a latino name----did you take your wife's name because you are here illegally? One minute you are the Patron Saint of latinos and the next minute you are one----which is it?
Either you have never lived in Mexico or you have never lived in a southern state because your nonsense about latinos not voting is soooo far off the mark---
Voting is huge for Mexicans and I have worked in politics in all the southern states and can tell you they are seriously passionately involved in politics in all those states and because voting and working in politics is so important to them, you can't find a politician in New Mexico who is not Spanish or Mexican and we have latino politicians abundantly serving all over the south and because voting is so important to them, illegals use their fake ID's that they get from DMV's that are owned and operated by latinos mostly in southern states and where they purchase fake ID's and vote all over the country ----In addition, I know for a fact that Mexican children are taught from grade school age to come here and run for politics in the states they want to take back and are taught that once they take over a state legislatively that they can then somehow get those states back for Mexico---Delusional and nice people don't do politics? YOu make them sound like morons and that is far from the case--- That is just not factual---in Mexico more than 85% of them vote for the President of their country which is 35% more than vote here for our President.
when Vincente Fox ran for President in Mexico back in 2000 I believe it was and when Bush was all over the airwaves telling people who were here and who had duel citizenship to go there and vote for him our borders got overrun with people who bought into the fact that this man would finally bring an end to corruption in Mexico and that democracy would prevail if only they would elect Vincente Fox and Bush was promising if they would make the trip back home to vote that this guy was the Mexican democratic savior and I knew tons of parents of the Mexican Mafia gangbangers who made the trip and of course no democracy came to Mexico, but thousands of people were known to cross the border to VOTE in that election and it was summer and it was hot and there were long lines at the border and they went anyway---but when these families returned from driving thousands of miles round trip to VOTE I really was amazed at how much it meant to them and how little it means to Americans---
they vote and your nice people don't do politics is just dumb
The things you say about latinos in America today are not at all true or real---having known them and worked with their kids in 40 different cities for four decades I can tell you that just like white and black kids here, the generation-X latino kids DO NOT have the work ethic of their parents and there are far more of them in prison or living with mommy and daddy in their 20's and 30's than in any other demographic in our country---
there are more latino kids on welfare per capita than in any other race and their moms enable them for decades by allowing them to stay home and not work---forever and these are just facts that can be backed up through welfare roles nationwide---
In New Mexico, Gov. Bill Richardson who has corruption charges pending against him there says all the time that one in three latinos in that state is on welfare and he recommends in his interviews that the latino moms kick them out of the house so they will go to work and the average latino teen in New Mexico has 2.7 kids before the age of 18 and because these kids were convicted felons before they turned 18 and cannot work here in spite of the fact that most of them were born here they now have grandkids and all of them are on welfare and I have seen this first hand and the data backs me up----the number one reason a kid joins a gang is because his momma turned him out onto the street to run with the older street kids when he or she was pre-school age and they learn from watching those kids how to bang and that is how they become convicted felons barely into their teens and I have seen this personally everywhere and the number one consumer of government welfare programs in our country are latinos and what you say is just not factual----in New Mexico where I lived for the past four years one in three residents are on welfare and I took the kids I mentored there back and forth to those offices and you never saw a white person there, but there was a sea of 40 year old and younger latinos lined up around the block to soak up the system and now they are all in their early 30's and are becoming grandparents already because soooooo many latino teens get pregnant every year in our country and there are 80 year old latinos all over this country who are raising their grandkids and great grandkids because their sons and daughters are so irresponsible and not interested in working anywhere----persecuted, oppressed harassed and raped??? who did that? I have been doing rape counseling for decades and have NEVER heard of a white boy raping a latina girl---again you are just making stuff up---that is crazy---and finally, I talk politics everywhere I go and have never met a latino who hates gays and who is against abortion so why don't you take your lies somewhere else----how about you tell mike you are sooo sorry he has lost a grandchild and go away?
Can any of you cite any case in which an illegal was successfully prosecuted for voting in the United States in the past 236 years?
I didn't think so.
There are over two thousand County Prosecutors and 50 state Attorney Generals in the United States, who are of all political persuasions. How is that none of them (not one) has a conviction of voting by an illegal in his belt? Not one in 236 years.
It is more proper, useful and fun to go to the real truth of matters than to its imagination.
Will, could you provide any reputable source showing that any elected official, right wing, left wing or middle, any time in the past 100 years has advocated registering non-citizens to vote?
I didn't think so.
As for Angie's assertions about Latino political involvement in this country:
Eligible White voters who voted in 2010: 48.6%
Eligible Black voters who voted in 2010: 44.0%
Eligible Latino voters who voted in 2010: 31.2%
Eligible White voters who voted in 2008: 51.6%
Eligible Black voters who voted in 2008: 41.3%
Eligible Latino voters who voted in 2008: 32.3%
http://www.pewhispanic.org/2011/04/26/the-latino-e
Less than a third of eligible Latinos voting does not reflect any hot and heavy political involvement. Again, Angie, more proper, useful and fun to go to the real truth of matters than to imagination.
Angie, do you have a reputable source for your assertion that "there are more latino kids on welfare per capita than in any other race."
I didn't think so. But, here's a source for you:
http://www.fns.usda.gov/ora/MENU/Published/snap/FI
The USDA Food and Nutrition Service report on Fiscal Year 2010 participation has Latinos at 10% of the recipients, even though they constitute 16% of the population and have incomes and assets far below the national averages.
Again, Angie, more proper, useful and fun to go to the real truth of matters than to imagination.
Oh, and it's not nice to speculate uninformedly about others national origins. It is also not very smart to do so when the poster (unlike everyone else) is not anonymous. You can find me (the name is unique) in the 1940 census records for Portage County, WI. After 70 years those records became public.
May I have this as a private and final message to you. Final because you seem to have asked me to leave.
You asked, "Would it not be better for you to find a place where most share your view of the world?"
Because it doesn't do much good (for me, you or anybody else) to listen to yourself talk - or others who say the same thing.
You also commented, "I have no idea why you keep continuing to comment."
Because I hope to change your mind or someone else's mind. How? By telling the truth as I understand it, by bringing reality to the front, and engaging people in meaningful discourse. And I'm not anonymous, but a real person you can learn about, touch, even hurt.
A lone person saying the truth.
When so many were misled
Bit by bit the truth was spread
And now all around the world
The people sing of joy and faith.
Best wishes.
Bob
All of us have life experiences that you clearly have not had and we were all trying to teach and show you the truths that exist outside of the world of google where you and far too many other Americans live and you should have known many, many comments back on this hub that because of our life's experiences we are not googling to prove a point but simply opining about life as we have lived it and that none of us were going to be swayed by your googling to prove your point and argumentative and cruel falsehoods that are not true in the real world but only on your computor
I'm sorry I have come back to this hub late to reply to some of the "inaccuracies" of Bob's comments. Josick or whatever stated Bob provides links to his comments. That seems to insinuate that he must be right. That is a grave misconception. But, there is one thing throughout this long thread that appears to have been overlooked. THE LAW. I give you Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. Code, "Improper Entry by Alien,"..... Enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers; or
* Eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers; or
* Attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact;
has committed a federal crime.
That last sentence says it all. Those that support illegals support violation of federal law. There is simply no way to get around that fact. You can not pick and choose what laws of man that you want to obey. You can say people break laws every day by speeding, cheating on their taxes, etc. That is a very poor analogy. There are consequences to breaking those laws for Americans. Right now, there are no consequences for illegally entering this country thanks to Barack Obama. Oh, here is that precious link. http://americanpatrol.com/REFERENCE/isacrime.html There is a link in this site that takes you directly to the U.S. Code
David is right...all excuses aside, this is a criminal invasion of our country, and as citizens, we have every right to demand that the federal government put a stop to it.
Not with Obama in charge it won't. That wuss will let anyone, and I mean ANYONE, into this country without even them asking and make them legal. And then apologize it took so long. I, personally, am sick of watching this once great nation get hijacked by those who DO NOT belong here!!!
David and Will-Correct, there is no excuse for the federal disregard of the problem of illegal entry.
Deordmc-You're right, with Obama in charge this won't change. Hopey Changey recently weakened the role of ICE so that it can focus only on illegals who've committed OTHER crimes besides that of crossing into the US illegally. But Bush wasn't much better, in fact he was arguably just as bad about this. It was under Bush that I realized our government would never do what it's supposed to do.
I've said this before and I'll keep saying it because too many of us are focused on the problem of illegals stealing jobs and sucking up government benefits. The big problem with unsecured borders is the TERRORIST ELEMENT. That's the story here - that's the thing the we need be most concerned about. If we'd taken action to FORCE our government to secure the borders years ago we might have hope of never experiencing attacks like we did on 9/11; it's too late for that now, so we have to buckle up for the ride.
I agree, since it is hard to tell who is latino from anyone from a middle east country. The borders need to be closed and stricter measures put in place. Also, let ICE do their jobs without interference.
Can you show any evidence of any terrorist attack ever perpetuated by someone who crossed the Mexico US border illegally?
Josak, can you provide any evidence that if someone (God forbid) broke into your home, they would not do harm to you and your family? That basically is the type of hypothetical you intentionally or unintentionally have asked. Just because a terrorist attack from there hasn't happened, does not mean it will never happen. If I am a terrorist, and I want to carry the parts for a WMD into the USA, what better place to do it then from the Mexican desert into the desert of Texas, AZ or New Mexico.
There are a million different ways, the reality is the US has so much border it would not be at all difficult. The thing is there is no cause to crack down on immigration because of terrorism because there is no known link, if you want to target it for another reason it's a different issue but unless you can show that there is an actual threat of terrorists entering the country that way (by demonstrating precedent) then it is not a good reason, sure the guy knocking on my door COULD be an axe murderer but I won't shoot him through my door just in case, why? because most people who knock on my doors are not and an axe murderer has never knocked on my door thus far.
China and Russia are setting up military camps all over Mexico josak and do you think they are doing so to "take over" Mexico??? No,and more likely than not the person at your front door is a "home invader"-----
Alright Josak, I'm going to cut you some slack and run with the idea that you're not up on what's been happening on our southwest border.
There is concrete evidence of terrorist infiltration specifically from the south. One piece of evidence comes from then DNI director Mike McConnell in 2007. He said in an interview that during 2006 terrorists from Iraq had been caught coming in from Mexico, and that some had gotten through and were still free in the country.
There are two federal court cases from 2010 that provide us with more concrete evidence of individuals from east Africa, with terrorist ties, coming into the country, many through our southern border.
Our borders have been breeched more that 33,000,000 times since 2005. Combine that number with the known FACT that terrorist organizations are trying to plant foreign operatives in the US, and that we have concrete evidence that they already have done so. That means we have a really bad day waiting to happen.
"The thing is there is no cause to crack down on immigration because of terrorism..."
Are you serious? Radical Islam has declared America to be the 'great satan', and the enemy. They have already killed 3,000 people in just one attack! Claiming we have no need to worry about them sneaking across our borders to attack us again in their ongoing war against us is just bizarre in its stupidity!
Jasak, I don't remember if it was you or Bob that said that illegals don't vote. On the front page of our local paper disproves that notion. Why the County DA does not prosecute this illegal for voter fraud is beyond me. I intend to raise hell about it at the next county wide district meeting. This illegal has commited voter fraud, ID theft for 4 decades and illegal SS disability checks since 2008. Sure, he has been productive since he illegally entered the country. But, that is all beside the point. He broke the law. Please click on the link and learn something about this problem. http://blog.al.com/live/2012/03/baldwin_man_convic
I wrote a hub yesterday that shows just how easy it would be for a group to cross into our country. It's called "Another Terrorist Attack". If you think it's not possible read it then make your arguments.
AND for every story like this that hits the front page there are dozens of the exact same stories that are NOT reported or are on page 24 in an effort to keep illegals here and voting democrat===
You made some really great points in your article. It's difficult, but I strongly believe that our government can do more than they're doing to keep illegal aliens out of our country.
I know this is another "talk show" as they say, but what kills me is the illegal alien mothers that have crossed the border with their children get welfare, food stamps and medi-cal/medicaid, and oftentimes we Americans don't have access to these types of benefits...

The way to end this is to end the lures.
1) Go after the employers who hire illegals with big fines, and that will stop that part of it.
2) Put our military on the border with orders to protect the US from drug dealer invasions, and that will solve that part of the invasion.
3) Stop rewarding pregnant Mexicans with free US deliveries and an anchor baby!
